Interlanguage

This article suggests to use mistakes as part of the learning process. They are positive indicators of the learning process and teachers should register them in a journal in order to deal with them later. The term 'interlanguage' was coined by Larry Selinker in 1972: it is a collection of learner's hypothesis, guesses and rules, and it is constantly evolving. Teachers are encouraged to give their students "controlled practice" for target structures but, above all, to create "communicative stress" in which learners are motivated to express themselves freely.
